The League of Women Voters and our partners filed a federal lawsuit to stop President Trump’s latest dangerous and unconstitutional attempt to seize control of our elections.

His latest unlawful executive order targets mail-in voting. It attempts to strip the power to regulate voter eligibility away from Congress and the states and puts eligible voters at risk of disenfranchisement through unreliable federal “citizenship lists” — making it harder, if not impossible, for untold numbers of Americans to vote.

The Constitution is clear: election administration is the responsibility of the states, not the executive branch. But this executive order attempts to override that reality. It advances unlawful federal overreach, threatens election officials, and opens the door to disenfranchisement through unreliable so-called “citizenship lists” built from flawed government data.

Hold ICE Accountable

Keep Pressure on Congress to Protect Our Communities

The LWV, together with an estimated 8 million people across all 50 states and the District of Columbia, participated in the nationwide No Kings protest to push back against the Administration’s authoritarian actions. These included the violent and unconstitutional actions taken by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

We need you to help demand that:

  • Senators reject additional funding for ICE, CBP, or immigration detention, and impose additional agency guardrails and accountability measures;

  • Congress investigate ICE, CBP, and the DHS’ use of force; and

  • Congress implement steps to protect the constitutional rights of civilians to peacefully protest and assemble without having their lives threatened or taken.

The people have proven to be incredibly powerful, and immigration surges have drawn widescale criticisms of the Administration’s overreach, intimidation, and suppression. We cannot wait until another person is killed and another city is traumatized. We must keep up the pressure and demand that our elected officials protect our communities and defend our democracy.
